E cigarettes should really be called vapor cigarettes. They don’t produce any smoke so there are no carcinogens, tar, CO, or other really bad stuff but there is vapor. You may have heard that this vapor is just water vapor but that isn’t exactly true. The vapor is made up of all of the components that are in the e liquid, including propylene glycol. Propylene glycol has been shown to be safe as a food additive and is used in fog machines which have been tested for safety. The vapor dissipates very quickly and people nearby rarely see or smell it. The vapor is mostly reported as odorless but if there are flavor additives, they can usually be smelled in the vapor by other people.

I use the coffee flavoring a lot and my family says that they can sometimes smell the coffee flavoring. They won’t stink up your house or car like tobacco does. The vapor like I said dissipates very quickly and doesn’t stick to walls or furniture. The question I get asked most often is “is it really like smoking?” I always have to respond with yes and no. For me the cartridges are almost exactly like smoking except a little harder to draw on with the super mini’s not as much difference with the pen style. The vapor atomized cartridges taste very similar to a cigarette but the flavored liquids are a lot smoother and don’t really feel like smoke going down.

It took a little while for me to get used to the smoothness of the flavored smoke juice, but I loved the flavor so much it was worth it. I have also found that the cartridges get easier to draw on once they have been refilled a few times. For me vapor cigarettes are one of the best things that have ever happened.

Our pen style e cigarettes, part number rn4072 are some of the best e cigarettes made. I use both styles but always find myself going back to the pen style for its easier draw and good vapor production. I usually only use it at home and take the super mini’s with me on the road. I should probably do it the other way around though because the pen style isn’t going to be confused with a real cigarette like the super mini. I have to admit that I kinda like the strange stares that some people give me when I use the super mini in a restaurant or any other place where cigarettes are banned. That is just the masochist in me; most people prefer to avoid attention.

The rn4072 gives a great throat hit of vapor and for me is great when I want to relax and just smoke. I use the super mini’s more like a constant puffer and the pen style like a cigarette. Deciding what you want out of an electronic cigarette is completely up to you but I highly recommend the pen style if you feel comfortable with your device not looking like a cigarette. It really doesn’t take long to start being disgusted by tobacco when you give either style a good couple of days without using tobacco. I have found it really strange to even light a cigarette anymore and I am always disappointed with them. It take an effort, but all good things do.

Action 6 news did a nice piece on the electronic cigarette. They even talked to a couple of doctors which shows that they cared enough to at least try to get some facts straight. The only problem I have with the report is that they came at the subject from standpoint of will it help you quit smoking. Electronic cigarettes are not designed to help you quit smoking; they are an alternative to smoking. I can tell you definitively that even though I use an e cigarette I am still addicted to nicotine. I still get the cravings and I still love the feeling of smoking.

I am not trying to quit though. I have decided that e smoking is better for me and I will continue it for the foreseeable future. What I don’t like is regular tobacco cigarettes. I tried to quite many time over the course of 25 years of smoking without success. I don’t use tobacco any longer but I still “smoke”. Or vape! It doesn’t really matter to me what you call it, I love it. I can’t tell you that it is any better for you than smoking, but it sure feels better and more importantly, I feel better. The DSE601 e pipe is now my favorite thing to smoke in the world. I have been using it continuously and just can’t get enough of the rich smooth flavor that it puts out. I believe the difference between the e cigarette and the e pipe flavor is a combination of the larger refill unit and the larger atomizer. What I do know for sure is that I will never give up my pipe it is incredible.

However, part of your calculations in deciding if the electronic cigarette is right for you should include the cost of replacement atomizers. On average they will last over 6 months so figure that cost into your total ownership. Owning and using an e cigarette is a little different than hopping down to your local convenience store for a pack of smokes. First there is the planning that has to be in place to make sure you don’t run out of liquid or refill cartridges. You also have to charge your batteries and make sure everything is working correctly. I am not trying to make it sound like a huge deal because it isn’t, but it is a little more involved than lighting a match.

I want to talk about the price of tobacco cigarettes first, not the health price or total cost of ownership there, which is probably to high to actually measure, just the price of buying a pack of cigarettes and smoking them. In my part of the country cigarettes cost about $5.50 a pack which is going up very soon which you can see on money central. I am not even going to use the $5.50 price for myself. I used to smoke about a pack and a half a day, but I bought my cigarettes in New Mexico for $35.00 a carton, or $3.50 a pack. So that is my reality. I smoked 10-1/2 pack a week so it was costing me about $2002.00 a year to smoke cigarettes. It cost me $38.50 a week or $165.55 a month figuring 4-1/3 weeks a month, all of that to smoke 210 cigarettes a week.

Our refill cartridges are about the equivalent of ½ a pack of cigarettes and cost .80ea. So for me just the cost of refills would cost $16.80 a week or $72.24 a month or $873.60 a year. A savings of $1128.40 but that doesn’t take the price of the device and replacement parts into account. Lets say that every year I need to buy a super mini e cigarette kit at $50.00 and I go through 6 atomizers at $9.50 each and 2 extra batteries at $15.25 each. Total device and parts would cost me somewhere around $137.50. If I add in those costs I am still only spending $1011.10 a year and saving about a grand. I don’t know about you but for me that is almost a house payment. (Or a trip to San Diego) which is what I prefer.

I believe my costs will be even lower with the Johnson Creek smoke juice but I haven’t been using it long enough to tell you for sure. Early indications are that there will be a difference and maybe even close to half. But I will still need to buy refill cartridges once in a while because they do wear out even with the juice. I have no idea how much you smoke or how much you would save, but for me even if it cost more I would still use it. At this point my family would insist, they love not smelling smoke in the house.

2 really cool things happened today in my little world of e cigarettes. The first is that I got an order from a very famous person. It would certainly be very crass to say who it was, but for a regular Joe like me, it is just one of those very cool things that sometimes happen. I met Marcus Allen on the golf course at the Phoenician about 10 years ago, and I have met a few other sports start; but other than that I can’t remember ever meeting anyone super famous. So when I got the order from this person it was a really big deal in my little world.

The other super cool thing was that I got my first and I emphasize FIRST order from Johnson Creek Smoke Juice today. I took one puff and I was addicted. I went to a cigar party at an old friend of mine’s house the other night and decided to bring along a couple of e cigars. First a little background on me and my friends. I am just a regular guy who lives in a house I can actually afford and drives a car that is paid for. A 1998 Chevy Blazer with 98,000 miles on the odometer. I grew up in a wealthy neighborhood with a father who was just a regular guy, so I learned early on the putting on heirs is a lousy way to live. My friend on the other hand is all about showing off his money and his mansion. He really is a terrific person one on one but get him around the boys from the country club and his is like a completely different person.

Me and a couple of other guys were shooting pool when I broke out the e cigars and they all looked at me like I was crazy. I passed them around and told them all about the vapor and that there is no smoke at all even though the cigars put out so many vapors it makes it seem like smoke. Everyone was really impressed and from the 10 people at the party I ended up with 25 orders for electronic cigars by the end of the night. The funny thing about the whole situation is that I learned that even their “trophy” wives control whether or not these high powered guys are allowed to smoke in the house. I am sure they control a lot more than any of those guys would care to admit, but at least now they will be able to smoke their cigars in their own homes and unless their wives actually see them doing it they will probably never know.
