“No man is truly married until he understands every word his wife is NOT saying.” – unknown
A February newsletter just wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Valentine’s day. Most people I know detest this little holiday devoted to all things love, either because they’re not in a relationship or because they are in a relationship. You just can’t win when it comes to getting a gift to symbolize how much another means to you. Roses wilt, chocolates melt and practical gifts like blenders or vaccum cleaners become grounds for divorce. Of course, I think an electronic cigarette is the perfect gift, which is why I’m offering an extra incentive this month. Buy a Pink DSE901 e cigarette and we donate $5.00 to The Breast Cancer Society in Arizona. This way you can say “I love you! (and your breasts).”
Laying down the Law on E Cigarettes
Utah House Bill 88 Titled Electronic Cigarette Restrictions, sponsored by Ronda Rudd Menlove, (R-Garland) was passed unanimously by the Utah Legislature February 18,2010. The bill makes it a misdemeanor to provide an electronic cigarette to a person under 19 and a class C misdemeanor for an 18 year old person to buy, attempt to buy, accept, or possess an electronic cigarette. If an 18 year old does buy, attempts to buy, accepts, or has in the person’s possession an electronic cigarette is subject to the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court. Further it describes when the sale of an electronic cigarette is required to be face-to-face and provides criminal penalties for violation of those requirements. It describes when free distribution of an electronic cigarette is prohibited and provides criminal penalties for violation of those prohibitions.
Proponents of the bill site their concerns that children may have access to nicotine which could prove fatal. Rep. Paul Ray, R-Clearfield, highlighted the potentially serious, even fatal, effects of tiny doses of nicotine exposure on toddlers. The amount of nicotine in two or three regular filter cigarettes is enough to kill someone in ingested. However, because nicotine is only partially consumed and is mixed with air going into the lungs over several minutes spread out over many years, the risk of nicotine poisoning from cigarette smoke is very low, even for chain smokers, Ray said.
Opponents of the bill point out that the logic is flawed. Spike Babaian, president of the National Vapers Club, concludes that by passing HB88, Utah would rather someone who is trying to switch their smoking habit do so only by inhaling nicotine, the addictive drug in cigarettes, in its dirtiest, most unhealthy form.

How do you feel about the passing of this bill? Let these lawmakers hear from you, especially if you are directly affected by this legislation.

“The measure of success is not whether you have a tough problem to deal with, but whether it’s the same problem you had last year.”
– John Foster Dulles
How many years have you made the resolution to put down cigarettes once and for all? Each year I promised myself I would quit smoking. I would smoke all my cigarettes New Year’s Eve, determined to be rid of them by the time the ball dropped and Dick Clark was rocked out, only to find myself a the closest convenience store the next morning. My resolution left me disillusioned before a single day had passed. That is until I changed the way I thought about smoking. Instead of focusing on giving up cigarettes, I focused on what I would gain – stamina, fresh breath, clean smelling clothes, car, home, more cash in my pocket and probably years of life. I no longer thought of ending my habit, I thought of beginning a new way of life.
So with that, welcome to a new beginning.
Ecigarettecigar.com is experiencing a new beginning too. We’re back with a new look, new products and a NEWsletter.
Did you hear?
On January 14, 2010, Federal Court Judge Richard Leon ruled in favor of Smoking Everywhere, Inc., in a lawsuit brought against the FDA and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Judge Leon ruled that e-cigarettes should not be classified as drugs, but rather customary recreational devices which are exclude from the meaning of drug or device under the FDCA. Unless suppliers make specific therapeutic claims, the FDA has no jurisdiction to stop the import of e cigarettes. That is until they can until prove it is indeed a new drug or the electronic cigarette is legally classified as a tobacco product.
And you thought switching was hard….
My dad has been smoking cigarettes for 52 years. Even after he had a heart attack ten years ago, he was unable to quit cold turkey. He cut down to just a few cigarettes a day and took up walking. Eventually he quit walking and 1 or 2 cigarettes a day became 4 or 5, then 9 or 10, until he was right back to smoking a pack or more a day.
When I bought my first e cigarette, I got him one too. I didn’t know if it would help either one of us quit smoking, but figured it was worth a shot. I was able to switch over to using my e cigarette exclusively, but my dad continued to favor tobacco cigarettes.
My dad came to visit us for Thanksgiving and told me he was ready to give up tobacco cigarettes once and for all. He stocked up with extra batteries, atomizers and smoke juice, knowing that he didn’t want to get stuck with a dead battery and resort to buying a pack of cigarettes. I’m thrilled to report that he’s 100% off tobacco cigarettes. It took him just one week to completely switch over and he’s been doing great.
I can’t tell you that e cigarettes will help you switch too. I can just tell you that I never thought the day would come when my dad actually quit smoking. Of course, with or without the e cigarette, it call came down to him deciding it was time to quit. It just took him over 50 years to make the decision.
As we embark on this exciting New Year, I just had to take a moment to look back. As many of you know, these last few months have been extremely difficult. I’m happy to report my family and I have all come through the experience with a greater appreciation of life and each other. Thank you to each and every one of you for your outpouring of support and well wishes. Your encouragement made all the difference!

We recently ordered a new device called the Joye 510 that will be for sale shortly. I ordered a few demo models to try out, just to make sure they are worth selling. I have to say that not only are they worth selling they are the best device I have ever used. It is no secret that I have both the GG and the Screw Driver. I have always thought that a manual battery corrects a lot of the inherent flaws with electronic cigarettes. The diaphragms that stick open and burn up atomizers and drain batteries is in my opinion the biggest design flaw with these devices. Any manual battery is better than an automatic in my opinion.
But while using both the Screw Driver and the GG I noticed a lot of finicky little things that bothered me. Both of those devices have very frequent mis-fires, meaning you press the button and nothing happens. They also take a lot of care and maintenance to work. The Joye 510 eliminates those problems and works like a champ. Unlike those devices it does have a small battery that won’t last all day long, but so far it hasn’t been a problem for me at all. Because the battery is small it also charges very quickly, and long before the other battery runs out. Like all of our kits it does come with 2 atomizers and 2 batteries, so if something does happen at least you won’t be without a device to use. The battery is also completely sealed so it is drip friendly.
Another really cool thing about the Joye 510 is the option for a carrying case that will recharge you batteries. After charging the carrying case it will recharge 2 batteries and also hold a spare atomizer and 2 spare carts. Since getting this device I have given away my $200.00 GG and the Screw Driver will be gone soon enough. This is my new device and I can’t see myself changing any time soon. I know a push button manual battery isn’t for everyone, but I think it is by far the best way to go.

One of the questions I get asked the most is, how to refill cartridges. I don’t know if there is a right or wrong way to do it; and everyone has different needs, so the best I can do is tell you how I do it and give some tips. The DSE901 and the Pen style are essentially the same so I will explain them together. The rn4081 is a different animal so I will have to explain it separately.
To start with the 901 and pen style it is very easy. The liquid container on the cart is easily accessible and sticks out of the end of the cart. In the picture below you can see the entire cart. They come with a hard plastic cover over a rubber seal. Take both of those covers off and you can see the wick material inside of the liquid container. All you have to do it take your bottle of smoke juice and start adding drops of liquid slowly until you can see liquid at the top of the cart. Place the cart back onto your atomizer and you are ready to go. Once you notice the vapor production going down you will probably need to add a couple of more drops. The wick material will not completely drain the liquid from the cart, so after about 10 puffs maybe less you will need to add more liquid. 1 bottle of liquid last me about 3 weeks. I was a pack a day smoker, so that give you an idea about how long a bottle should last for you. If you travel or need extra carts handy just fill a few and put the rubber seal and plastic cover back on for safe keeping. You should also keep filled carts in a plastic bag in case they happen to leak.
For the RN4081 or super mini (same thing) there are 2 ways to refill. The first is the same as above but you have to be careful not to drip liquid onto the inside of the cart. The liquid container for the rn4081 is recessed into the cart and is slightly harder to refill. The other thing you can and probably should do with a super mini is take a paper clip and push it through the small opening at the top of the cart and push the liquid container out to the end of the cart when refilling. That will help to not get liquid onto the inside of the cart. And again same as above. Put the cart back on your atomizer and you are ready to go.
Refilling e cigarette cartridges is very easy, as you can tell. It also happens to be a ton cheaper than buying pre-filled carts.

I just got an email from one of our customers asking about atomizer care so I thought I would share what I do with mine. At night I take the atomizers that I have been using during the day and turn the upside down on a paper towel so they can drain. Mostly I use the DSE 901 so by upside down I mean the end that the cartridges into is in contact with the paper towel. The threaded end is up in the air. I don’t usually get too much drainage but sometimes a drop or two if I have been using it really wet during the day.
I like a lot of vapor and a lot of flavor so I keep my carts pretty well filled up. That can lead to some overflow into the atomizer so that is why I drain them. It probably isn’t wise to use that much liquid because the liquid can drain into your battery and cause a problem. If you are using a super e cig you definitely don’t want to over fill because the liquid will go into the mouth piece and into your mouth. YOU DON’T WANT THAT!
Other than that I don’t really do anything with my atomizers and they are lasting up to 6 months. Just keep in mind that both the batteries and the atomizers are consumables and won’t last forever. Vapor volume goes down over time also, and most atomizers need to be replaced every month. Some even recommend that you replace them every 2 weeks. We do have a 30 day return for any defective parts though so you don’t need to worry about getting a bad product. Good luck to all and keep vaping.

One of our customers passed along a few tips this week, so I thought it was a good time to share them and some that I have learned along the way. The first thing I want to share is that your e cigarette may have a bad flavor for the first few times you puff on it. When you get a brand new device or start using a new atomizer it is best to take a few puffs without inhaling to heat up the atomizer and clear it out. After that your cartridge will taste fine and you can begin using your e cigarette just like normal.
The second thing I want to share is that the best thing about e smoking is the choice of flavors available. I never in my life thought that I would enjoy smoking different flavors or even menthol. But I have come to realize that our x high menthol and the cappuccino are my favorite things to smoke. The regular tobacco is good for a while, but it is nice to not be limited. You don’t have to try them all at once but do yourself a favor and try a new flavor once in a while; it helps to clear your mind of the limitations of tobacco.
Our customer Suzanne wanted to share that she is getting more use out of her cartridges by adding a couple of drops of water to them after they start to dry out. She is also storing her cartridges in an upright position after she refills them to avoid leakage, and replaces the rubber stopper after filling. She also keeps her smoke juice in the refrigerator for long term storage to make sure that it maintains its long term suitability. The Manufacturer says that the liquid is good for 2 years, but placing it in the fridge certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Here is a direct quote from the email that Suzanne sent to me. “This is just the best thing that I have ever done for myself… bar none.
I am breathing easily, sleeping through the night, no more dry mouth, no anxiety… which comes with trying to quit…. More energy…. I could go on and on….”
Thanks Suzanne for allowing me to share this with others and I hope that your e smoking journey continues to be great.

I wanted to take a moment to explain some of the differences in the 3 different types of e cigarettes that we carry. They each have their own advantages and personalities, and everyone seems to like one more than the others. I hope this will help any beginners choose the right one for them the first time so they won’t be unhappy with the device they choose and feel the need to try others right away. Although for me having every kind of device, and generally just having new toys to play with all the time is part of why I enjoy e smoking so much.
The first and most popular device that we sell is the super mini e cigarette, also known as the RN4081. It is 102mm long and looks the most like a regular cigarette. One of the reasons that it is so popular is because of its appearance. People tell me every day that they want a device that looks like what they are used to. The super mini e cigarette is a great little device that is best used with prefilled cartridges. I use mine mostly when I am away from home and can just throw a couple of boxes of carts in the car. The reason I say it is best used with cart is that refilling them with liquid is a pain, and can get very sloppy. To refill them right you need to take the sponge part out of the cartridge and fill it with liquid but make very sure you don’t over fill. If you overfill it will leak up into the mouthpiece and you run the risk of getting liquid into you mouth. The super mini is best for people who don’t want to be bothered with refilling their own and want something that is easy. My experience shows me that the cartridges are equal to about 6 regular cigarettes but if you are refilling them they don’t last as long because of fear of over filling. Batteries last between 3-4 hours depending on use. It is always a good idea to have an extra battery with every e cigarette.
The second e cigarette that we sell is the pen style or RN4072. The pen style is 155.5mm long and looks the least like a real cigarette. Both the atomizer and the battery are longer on the pen style making it our longest e cigarette. The best feature of the pen style is the size of the cartridge. It is massive and holds a lot of liquid. Each cartridge is about the equivalent of a whole pack of cigarettes. That makes the pen style cheaper to operate than the super mini when you are just buying cartridges for it. The cartridges are also very easy to refill, they pop right out and you have direct access to the liquid container. Refilling with liquid makes your e smoking experience far less expensive. When I use only the pen style I can smoke for about 30.00 worth of liquid a month. And with today’s prices for cigarettes that is half the cost of a carton of smokes. Our pen style e cigarettes just like the super mini come with 2 atomizers so you are always ready to go, but again it is never a bad idea to have an extra battery and pen style atomizer laying around just in case.
Our third and my favorite e cigarette is the DSE901. It is my favorite because it combines all of the good things about the super mini and the pen style. It is 119.5mm long and has a large easily accessible cartridge for refilling or for popping on a new one. You can get them in white so they look like a regular cigarette or in fancy colors so they show a little flair. The one that I primarily use is stainless steel or sometimes called platinum with a black cart. Most people say that the pen style creates the most vapor of any e cigarette but from my experience the 901 creates just as much vapor of a higher quality. The atomizer seems to burn a little bit hotter which uses less liquid and gives a nice texture to the vapor. I love using all different flavors of liquid and when I use them in the DSE 901 it really pulls out the flavor of the liquid better than any other device. If I were starting out today the 901 would be my first choice among all of the devices I have used. It is the cheapest to run and gives me everything I want out of an e cigarette.

Senator Jeff Lautenberg sent this letter to the FDA on March 23, 2009 asking them to ban the sales of e cigarettes. Although I am a little unclear as to what the senator is trying to accomplish with this ban, I am positive that it would be a terrible move by the FDA. The reason I am sure it would be a terrible move is that the hundreds of thousands of people already using e cigarettes would be driven back to burning tobacco, and we all know the results of prolonged use of tobacco. I believe that the senator is concerned with suppliers who are claiming that e cigarettes are completely safe, healthy, and a quit smoking device. Unfortunately I have seen all of those claims being made also.
The good news about e smoking is that there are other senators like Reps. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) who are using electronic cigarettes and are very clear about their benefits. Senator Stearns has even gone so far as to send kits to President Obama and to House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio). When you go that far it is pretty clear how you feel about something and Senator Stearns could be a great ally if this issue turns into a fight.
The FDA has clear jurisdiction over any drug that claims to be a smoking cessation drug as they should. It is flat out wrong to make claims that cannot be substantiated through studies. 80% of the people who use the patch to quit smoking are back to smoking in less than a year, probably not because there is anything wrong with the patch, but because the psychological draw of nicotine is very hard to overcome. Electronic cigarettes can’t help you quit anymore than any device or drug that claims to do so. What they can do is mimic the act of smoking without smoke. The primary function of an e cigarette is to vaporize liquid that feels and tastes like smoke to the user. They are available without any nicotine at all. They are not a drug delivery device. They are a vaporizer of liquid, nothing more.
The truth is that while I feel it is safer for me, and even though there have been some studies done, I can’t tell you that it is any better for you than regular cigarettes. I can tell you for sure that cigarettes do have chemicals and agents in them that are proven to cause cancer, emphysema, and a host of other health related issues. Ultimately I believe that the choice should be left to individuals and not to the FDA. Soon the only choice we may have is e cigarettes without nicotine, or tobacco. I still choose my e cigarette.

Here we are just a couple of weeks away from another tax hike on cigarettes. What does the government really think is going to happen with this latest tax hike? Do they really believe that they will increase revenue? It has been proven for years that the tax on tobacco far outweighs the cost of healthcare for smokers, so this can only be for revenue generating purposes. I happen to believe that with the new technology behind e cigarettes that this may be one of the final nails in the cigarette casket. People seriously won’t be able to afford these new taxes and revenue will go down as a direct result.
People will turn to e smoking. E cigarettes give close to the same feeling as tobacco and the cost is far less. I believe that all it will take to make tobacco a thing of the past is for every smoker to give this new technology a try. Sure there will be a few who can still afford cigarettes and want to continue to smell like smoke during the day, but they will be fewer and fewer every single day.
With the added pressure from employers and cities to push smokers further and further away from being able to enjoy their habit comfortably, electronic cigarettes may become the only viable solution. We will all benefit from the cleaner air, less trash, and reduced cost. If you haven’t tried e cigarettes yet you are in for a great big happy surprise. They are better than tobacco and a heck of a lot cheaper.
